Hello and welcome to my newsletter!
Another season 2 instalment…
Just preparing this issue a day early to see if I can still schedule it.
Here are the latest 2 interesting podcasts I listened to:
Tim O’Reilly: Why OpenAI has an Uber problem (Keen On Podcast) - Tim was one of the big names around when I got into podcasting, programming and open source in the early oughts. Great interview. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy56ZW5jYXN0ci5jb20vZi9QSWFNTl9BZC5yc3M/episode/OWYwNjA0MWEtMzEwNC00YTIzLTkxYTktNDZmOTFjZjhjNjA5?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwig8eSI78SDAxUAAAAAHQAAAAAQDg
Banking Bitcoin with Allen Farrington and Eric Yakes (What Bitcoin Did Podcast) - Interesting discussion, they bring up the layer 2 / self custody problem I’ve been vocal about recently. I’m glad people are at least talking about it. https://www.whatbitcoindid.com/podcast/banking-bitcoin
Update: Nope still can’t schedule it properly.
Turbulent week, I got assaulted twice, then there was a series of bullying tsunamis. Horrible stuff, I don’t want to dwell on it here. I wrote about it in this week’s website notes. Check them out for the full story.
I had a bit of a breakthrough with my static site generator development. I’ve been trying to add full text RSS feeds. I have it working for the blog, but it breaks the linkblog feed, and it also doesn’t look as good as the website version of the content.
To fix it properly I need to modify the render engine. Turns out I actually already mostly rewrote it a few months back, but I got blocked from completing it at the time, and got side tracked with other stuff. Well I spent a couple of days on it this week and got a very minimal version of the new render engine working. It’s pretty cool, very flexible, and I think it should support all the previous functionality as well as lots of future stuff.
Before progressing I’m trying to find a temporary solution for the RSS feeds. Ideally I don’t want anything relying on the re-write before I start. That adds extra pressure and stress. Re-writes sometimes get quite tricky so you want to clear the decks before you start so to speak.
I’m cautiously optimistic about the new render engine. It’s fun to be writing code again.
