Saturday 28th May, 2022 - Transitioning empires
Another week of great javascript, tech and web development links
Hello and welcome to my newsletter!
Another season 2 instalment…
I noticed yesterday that Patreon had unpublished my account, so I’ve got that up again. If you like reading the newsletter then signup, pay what you want / feel it’s worth / what you can afford. Donations very welcome.
Minimal commentary this week, just the links, podcasts and a blog post I wrote:
I did a bunch of reading about how we got from Roman rule to modern day Britain via German tribe invasions and mass migration. And also how after that it was basically constant religious wars for hundreds of years in France.
I spent a few hours reading through these, at times totally absorbed, other times the articles go on far too long and my interest waned, and I just skipped through quite a lot.
It’s fascinating how the style of surnames changes dramatically over time, and how a transition from one empire to another actually happens in practice. It takes a really long time, people need to learn a totally different language, become bilingual, change religions, etc. It’s mind blowing.
Ok enough history, time for the podcasts and links:
