Another week of great javascript, tech and web development links
Hello and welcome to my newsletter!
Another season 2 instalment…
This morning has been so odd, so full of bizarre synchronicities, that I’m writing this super short intro in the event that more weird things happen blocking me from writing this edition. An emergency fallback if you will. It feels like that bit in Ghostbusters where all the storm clouds start gathering around the tall building and everyone in the city is freaking out. And it’s only 9am.

Gathering links and podcasts …
Mark is going through all his crap from the past week…
Mark glanced at his list of possible titles and quickly glanced away in horror…
Mark is panicking a bit now because this issue is going to be the worst ever…
Script completed in [way more than expected] seconds
Good thing I started this with an emergency intro because I ain’t gonna have time to write anything else.
The ssg dev has gone well this week, managed to fix a lot of small annoying bugs. I reverted back to using test data, lest I use up all my Github actions minutes. Apparently websites with lots of small files just take ages to deploy on Netlify, and there doesn’t appear to be any way around that at the minute. I don’t really have any time to look into that right now. Nothing exciting to add aside from knowing that I at least have a raft that I think will probably float for a bit when I get turned off at Heroku. Damn this is hardcore.
The unnervingly weird titles that didn’t make it into this week’s newsletter title slot:
Maybe Infinite Risk All the Time
The 500 Year Old Network State
Interest Rates === Inter Country Stealing Targets
Interest Rates === Plunder Targets
Backbencher Mind Control
Literal 10ft Tall You
Room Full of Liars-Till-We-Die
Synchronicity Traffic Jam
Bumper to Bumper Sychronicities
At the Apex of Loozer-Loozer Electrosynchronicityism Again
No phone no power, no power no phone === homelessness === armless

You looked, liar clockwork orange, you looked, ZAP!
Now you looked at person imitating you being zapped! No zap

It’s Gang Napalm Day!
Automation Cloud 9
The Partial Simulation Hypothesis
The Simulation Interference Hypothesis
Monkeys picking bits out of each others interfaces to reality
Ok, Synchronise Reality Interfaces…3…2…1
Stage 1: Fashionable Ways to Combine Big Symbols
Yes yes yes yes yes yes…..bof
Scam bankman fraud
Scam bankman freed
Inner will always be controlled by outerouter, inner allowed-but-only-just by outer, outer allowed-but-only-just by outerouter, what should outer do?
Life-is-beautiful situation during eternal world wide slavery
Allow redefined to we-are-blocking-you, and default response to complaint: liar
Big Breath Do Lots of Things vs Small Breath Do One Thing

We can haz napalm, and then more even bigger napalm, just because
We will make you ow yourself then turn that into a stick to hit you with, then blame you
Good and Evil Doing the Good and Evil Dance Again
Ok the brain dump show is over.
Everything nearly got deleted because of the occasionally very stupid touch screen interface. So I’m gonna stop here.
See you next week.

Summarising the current crazy time we live in, FTX blowup simplified in 5 steps, and Twitter conspiracies (Techmeme Ride Home Podcast) https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3MuYXJ0MTkuY29tL3RlY2htZW1lLXJpZGVob21l/episode/Z2lkOi8vYXJ0MTktZXBpc29kZS1sb2NhdG9yL1YwL3RRUUNrLWJrcHNqS3FjaVVqREFEYXhJN3NCeFBSMmJDZXZFeXg2Sm1OSGc?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQ
Ari Shafir on trolling as an art form, UK vs US comedy and more (Duncan Trussell Podcast) - There’s a lot to like in this episode, I like that they’re friendship is mostly well balanced, but not completely, so there is the occasional bump in the road that they both handle with humour, the imperfections in their case often send them down unexpected roads and end up being quite complimentary, a little bit of disagreement but not too much https://audioboom.com/posts/8194795
FTX Wallets drained as we are on air with FTX team member (Up Only Podcast) - This is rather king and dragged out, but it’s interesting, though the whole but in the middle with the angry ex-FTX is a little odd, the timing of things felt off to me, then I thought wouldn’t it be ultra f-ed up if the whole thing was staged and all the dudes from Up Only were actually executing a hack, while recording a podcast about a live hack happening, quite a good alibi https://uponly.tv/ftx-wallets-drained-while-were-on-air-with-ftx-team-member
The Best of the Best w/Francois Rochon (We Study Billionaires - Bitcoin Podcast) - I found myself nodding along to this quite a bit, the perspective that businesses are like works of art is very interesting, worth a listen https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3MuYXJ0MTkuY29tL3RoZS1pbnZlc3RvcnMtcG9kY2FzdA/episode/Z2lkOi8vYXJ0MTktZXBpc29kZS1sb2NhdG9yL1YwL0dRMzZIb09GMWt5OEVPZU1QZTRjOHJ4UGJQQzB4dGx4cDJOQ095Zk51UG8?sa=X&ved=0CAYQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQIw
Bernardo Kastrup: Consciousness & Superdeterminism Doubts (Into the Impossible Podcast) - Fascinating scientific exploration into consciousness and meta-consciousness, experimental validation and falsification, simulation theory; it’s totally Gerhart from the Ship it! Podcast! Also we need a mega mix of all the times Brian says “very good” on this episode, and also also how similar is one of BKs argument techniques to my central and somewhat unusual argument in last week’s interest edition? What are the chances. In any case, very excellent and thought provoking episode https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vaW50b3RoZWltcG9zc2libGU/episode/YWQ5ZDcxYWMtNjMyYi0xMWVkLWFiNzAtZGZkYjFlMzVkODAz?sa=X&ved=0CAYQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQRQ
Bitcoin is the Answer w/ Preston Pysh (We Study Billionaires - Bitcoin Podcast) FTX review, biodiversity in the economy, astute observation about how close Sam’s name is to Scam Bankman-Fraud, what are the chances?, producer countries vs consumer countries, supply chain destruction; I worry that Bitcoin just means the “winners” will be the winners forever, since there is no mechanism for the pendulum to swing back in the other direction, it seems even the bitcoiners stop short of discovering the truth when it destabilises their position; should all countries be alternating consumer/producer countries, a sort of jig for giants, world wide circular breathing? https://www.whatbitcoindid.com/podcast/bitcoin-is-the-answer
Niall Ferguson, Historian - The coming Cold War 2, Visible and Invisible Geopolitics, Why Even Atheists Should Study Religion (Tim Ferris Podcast) - Ferguson’s analysis of the present moment is a cut above the rest, fascinating on so many dimensions, including the fact that it is interspersed by my brain being totally convinced it’s actually Sean Connery wearing a sarong; glad to hear he was also very confused by interest rates, and how interesting the story of his wife’s journey, including the challenges and joys of raising children in a mixed faith environment https://tim.blog/2022/11/15/niall-ferguson/
Synth War II: Digital Doom (20 000 Hz Podcast) - Second episode in this 2 parter looking into to history of synthesisers, which looks at the life of these two very different inventors, and how ultimately they both changed the world of music https://www.20k.org/episodes/digitaldoom
We Need To Talk About Curve Inversions (Plural) Going Nuclear - I’m starting to get a better idea of how all these metrics paint a picture of where the economy is heading, it’s surprising to me how much mass phycology is involved, where the fed / central banks have to make bolder and bolder claims because the market participants are like nice-try-big-banker we know you are bluffing about rates, and price that into their predictions, which we can see in the metrics https://share.transistor.fm/s/80b55ea4
Life the Internet And Everything With Garbage Day’s Ryan Broderick (Recode Media Podcast) - Just a very good strong conversation between two guys that have been online for a while, talking about online media stuff, probably goes great with a cup of hot coffee https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vcmVjb2RlbWVkaWE/episode/OGI3OTc5ZjItNTIyMS0xMWVjLWEwNzEtM2JkMmFlZjk1MDcw?sa=X&ved=0CAYQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQOQ
Is Google Getting Worse? (Freakonomics Podcast) - There’s a lot of good analysis of the online world as it relates to Google in this episode, and since they have had such a big hand in shaping that online world, it’s worth a listen https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cub21ueWNvbnRlbnQuY29tL2QvcGxheWxpc3QvYWFlYTRlNjktYWY1MS00OTVlLWFmYzktYTk3NjAxNDY5MjJiLzE0YTQzMzc4LWVkYjItNDliZS04NTExLWFiMGQwMDBhNzAzMC9kMWI5NjEyZi1iYjFiLTRiODUtOWMwYy1hYjBkMDA0YWIzN2EvcG9kY2FzdC5yc3M/episode/YjIxNjhmM2EtYjgxNi00ZTVjLWIzZmEtNTQ3MTEwMTY5NTE0?sa=X&ved=0CAYQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQMA
Quatar’s History (The Rest is History Podcast) - I really like the football flavoured episodes they will be doing during the world cup, light in the football, and heavy on the history, they always have an interesting angle on things, and this episode is no exception, it feels like sone sort of pivotal moment in world geo-politics with a small country sandwiched between bigger nations at the epi-centre https://shows.acast.com/the-rest-is-history-podcast/episodes/255-qatar-a-history
The Changing Composition of Money by Alfonso Peccadielo TIP495 (We Study Billionaires Podcast) - This is so clearly Danielle Botelli, regular guest on the Duncan Trussel Podcast, he hasn’t even bothered to put on a fake nose and glasses, which is kind of funny, and it’s a great episode in any case, lots of useful stuff about macro economics, all delivered via the medium of rolling Italian vowels, very southing on the ear, no doubt a good thing because all this money stuff is infuriating; he also describes the whole lending market as a literal pyramid https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3MuYXJ0MTkuY29tL3RoZS1pbnZlc3RvcnMtcG9kY2FzdA/episode/Z2lkOi8vYXJ0MTktZXBpc29kZS1sb2NhdG9yL1YwL21GX1ppWlRlV3RCTTgwV1pYT214eWxPYlQ4NXVtTXFXMzlYdnJUNEVTdXc?sa=X&ved=0CAYQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQIw
Fri 11/18 - Twitter Not Dead At the Time of Posting This (Techmene Ride Home Podcast) - Undoubtably the best roundup of the current last-days-of-the-titanic situation unfolding over at Twitter https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3MuYXJ0MTkuY29tL3RlY2htZW1lLXJpZGVob21l/episode/Z2lkOi8vYXJ0MTktZXBpc29kZS1sb2NhdG9yL1YwLy1TU0taOE5TZmtDUnVtRXdIQU5RN2hMMkh4MjEtRmRYM3dlYzgwSFUyWUE?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwiIzuq9wbn7AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQ
The FTX Face-palm (Another Podcast Podcast) - I’m literally still listening to this as I type this, loads of insightful observations, just feels like it should be in with all this weeks FTX stuff including, the Howe test, early days of the web comparison with http stack, crypto is a machine for transfer of wealth from new fomo people to old hats who got there first (same as web2, but you didn’t need to spend 15 years building F-ing websites, so maybe an improvement, you lucky sonuvabitches, wonder when I’ll finally be allowed to make some money), ponzi vs pyramid vs crypto, Marxism and science https://another-podcast.simplecast.com/episodes/what-ftx-highlights-about-crypto-_u2i96cB
Last minute addendum that I have not had time to listen to: The Big Reveal: The Legend of CØCKPUNCH — Kevin Rose and Tim Ferriss on Tim’s New and Extremely Bizarre Art Project (#636) https://tim.blog/2022/11/18/the-legend-of-cockpunch/
